UNESCO is most widely known for its work to advance World Heritage. The UNESCO World Heritage program was founded in 1972.UNESCO’s World Heritage List recognizes natural and cultural sites of outs tanding universal value around the world.
Kansas City is not a World Heritage site. The UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a different program. That said – one of Creative City KC’s core values is the protection and preservation of the city’s musical culture – as tangible, intangible and digital heritage.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network was established in 2004. The mission of the UCCN is to advance sustainable urban development through creativity and culture.
The Network promotes cooperation and collaboration between Mayors and Cities around the world with a focus on the role of culture as a driver of sustainable development. Member cities in the UCCN commit to advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
