Creative City Exchanges

As part of Kansas City’s membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), Creative City KC works in partnership with other UCCN Cities to organize and host international exchanges to foster greater understanding between our cities, cultures and countries.

One of the ways that UCCN Cities work together is through traveling cultural exchanges focused on music, creativity and cross-cultural exchange. 

Kansas City has actively developed musical exchanges with UCCN Cities including San Cristobal de las Casas (Craft and Folk Art, 2018), Hannover, Germany (Music, 2019), Nassau, Bahamas (Craft and Folk Art, 2019), Frutillar, Chile (Music, 2021-2023), Metz, France (Music, 2023), London, Canada (2023) and Belfast, Northern Ireland (Music, 2024).

In 2024, Kansas City also hosted French jazz musicians Benjamin Sanz and Jon Bouttelier as part of a collaboration with Hermon Mehari of Kansas City (based in Paris). We also supported the performance of Hermon Mehari’s MIRR Collectif in Metz, France for the 2024 Olympic Torch Ceremony.
